Arnab Goswami’s plea challenging Bombay HC order to be heard by SC tomorrow

Indian news anchor and the current managing director and editor-in-chief of Republic Media Network Arnab Ranjan Goswami has moved to the Supreme Court to challenge the order of Bombay High Court that rejected his plea to grant interim bail. The plea will be heard by the Supreme Court’s bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and Indira Banerjee.

Apart from the government of Maharashtra, Arnab has also taken the support of the station house officers of the Alibaug police station and Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh to his appeal in the country’s top court. On Monday, the high court had rejected pleas of Goswami and two others for interim bail in a reported abetment to suicide case registered against them in 2018.

The High Court also said they could move bail applications before a sessions court for a decision in a period of four days. Thus, the three including Arnab appealed in the sessions court in Alibag.In the court, the team of Justices S S Shinde and M S Karnik did not approve the interim bail pleas of the three accused, by stating that “no case is made out for release of applicant under extraordinary writ jurisdiction”.

On 4 November 2020, Goswami, Shaikh, and Sarda were arrested when police in Raigad again opened a case involving the death of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik at their home in Alibag in May 2018.
