USA registers an alarming number of more than 2000 COVID – 19 daily deaths: a rise in numbers predicted

The John Hopkins University on Thursday, registered a huge number of Covid – 19 deaths in a single day in the USA. The number recorded exceeded 2000.  The experts have warned that the virus is surging through the US communities and the death toll will continue to rise. The predictions mentioned a total of 2,300 Americans who would be losing their lives daily by December 18th.

The IHME Modelling team mentioned reaching a peak of over 2500 daily deaths by mid-January 2021. The surge of new infections and hospitalizations would be the cause of the increase in deaths as predicted by the Health officials.

Figures released on Thursday by the COVID tracking project, showed more than 80,600 patients who were hospitalised throughout USA. The number of new cases reported stood at more than 187,800 which was the highest recorded till now.

Dr Anthony Fauci mentioned that despite everybody knowing what works, like wearing masks, social distancing, avoiding public gatherings and so on, it was very distressing to see the numbers increasing so rapidly especially since these were simple and easy things to do. Everybody as a country could easily do all this. The IHME team went on to add that simple measures like wearing a mask could save 65,000 lives by March 2021.

The American Medical Association issued an open letter asking the public to refrain from traditional gatherings and help control the spread of this deadly virus. The recent community spread of the infection has already overburdened the health care system of the country.

Another cause of concern voiced by the CDC was the asymptomatic people carrying the infection and spreading it unknowingly.

A recent figure of the number of COVID – 19 infected staff members of the Mayo clinic in Midwest over the past two weeks exceeded 900.

New directives have been issued with a view to controlling the spread of the deadly virus.
