Experts say that a study of the patients who are recovering for COVID-19 has shown an alarming trend of digestive problems. The recovered individuals are plagued by new problems like acidity, constipation, acid reflux, bloating, gaseousness, irritable bowels and in fact many other issues, all related to the digestive tract.

The ongoing second wave of this deadly virus has brought many such cases to the fore. Doctors say that the disease itself can lead to several gastro intestinal problems. Patients experience a loss of appetite, diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea as well as pain in the abdomen.

This may be attributed to the fact that for the treatment of this disease a multiple drug combination is being used. A whole range of antiviral, antimalarial, antifungal and steroids and being used which have a negative effect on the digestion of a person.

The best way to ensure that these effects are minimised and almost nullified is to take great care during the recovery phase. The factors which have to be kept in mind are a good and healthy diet, adequate sleep, some form of physical exercise and trying to remain stress free and calm. A control of the mind and body is needed for a complete recovery process.

Those recovering at home must ensure that they eat clean and home cooked food instead of ordering from outside. A good sleep cycle must be developed. Trying to inculcate hobbies that generate interest and keep the individual occupied will be very advantageous. Keeping in touch with friends and family to keep stress at bay is also advisable. Keeping in touch with your doctor during the recovery phase is of utmost importance. Any signs or symptoms of discomfort must be reported and medical advice sought promptly.
