In 2024, Taiwan’s military is ranked the twenty-fourth most potent in the world, a one-place decline from the previous year, according to an annual survey published by the website Global Firepower (GFP), which monitors information regarding global defense.
The world’s military power ranking moves Taiwan down one spot to 24th place. Taiwan achieved the 143rd rank in the 2024 “Power Index” with a score of 0.3302, 0.0000 of the maximum possible score of 0.0000.

The GFP determines the ranking according to the prospective war-making capability of each nation by conventional means over land, sea, and air. In addition to finances, geography, manpower, equipment, and natural resources, the ultimate ranking is determined by an accumulation of values of over sixty distinct factors.
The General Personnel Board (GPB) estimated Taiwan to have 2.58 million military personnel, of which 2.31 million are reserve soldiers and 215,000 are active-duty personnel.
With an index score of 0.0699, the United States maintained its position at the top in 2024. Russia (0.0702), China (0.0706), India (0.1023), and South Korea (0.1416) followed suit.
In the interim, sixth through tenth place went to the United Kingdom (0.1443), Japan (0.1601), Turkey (0.1697), Pakistan (0.1711), and Italy (0.1863), respectively.
This year, Taiwan, ranked twenty-third in 2023, fell one position to trail Saudi Arabia.
