Two Americans were discovered napping atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Two American visitors were discovered sleeping off a heavy night at the heights of Paris’ Eiffel Tower on Monday after evading security the night before, the monument’s operator said Tuesday. The tourists were found sleeping off the effects of a night spent drinking in the tower.
According to the Eiffel Tower operator Sete, which is publicly owned and operated, security personnel awoke the individuals “in the early morning” as they completed their rounds before the opening of the French monument at 9 a.m. local time.

They “appears to have gotten stuck because of how drunk they were,” Paris prosecutors told AFP.
The intoxicated Americans had spent their illegal night outside under the stars in a location ordinarily off-limits to the general public between the second and third levels of the tower. Still, Sete said they “did not appear to pose any threat.”
A source within the police department stated that after the two individuals paid for an access ticket at approximately 10:40 p.m. local time on Sunday, they hopped security barriers while ascending the steps from the top of the tower.
According to the police, rescue crews from the fire department, including one specializing in rescuing persons from precarious heights, were dispatched to retrieve the trespassers.
Both males were questioned at the police station in the seventh district of Paris after being taken there. Sete announced that it would submit a complaint to the appropriate authorities.
