US Open champion Caroline Wozniacki continues her fairytale run with a decisive victory over Petra Kvitová. This year at the US Open, Caroline Wozniacki continued her remarkable return to tennis by claiming a significant achievement.
The former world No. 1 defeated the 11th-seeded Petra Kvitová 7-5, 7-6 on Wednesday, marking her first victory over a Top-20 player in nearly five years.
Wozniacki had been absent from competitive tennis for over three years before her return less than a month ago.

During her break, the Danish champion had two children, but she remained close to the sport by competing in Legends doubles events and working as a TV analyst.
She announced her intention to return in June this year and has not looked back.
She breezed through her first-round match at Flushing Meadows and continued her stellar play against Kvitová, a two-time grand slam champion. After the victory, Wozniacki was observed hunched over in her chair, wiping away tears of delight as her fairytale run continued in New York.
“I knew I had an opportunity to win going into the match, and I have faith in myself. Nonetheless, she has had a fantastic year,” Wozniacki said after the match, as reported by the WTA.
“She is eleven in the world and enjoys playing on firm courts. I anticipated a tough match and knew I had to play my best tennis.”
She subsequently told reporters, “I am ecstatic to have the chance to play at Arthur Ashe Stadium. If you had asked me three years ago, I would have never played on one of those courts again in the US Open, particularly during a night session.
“Winning a match in such a manner feels incredible,” the player said.
Wozniacki won 30 singles titles, including the Australian Open in 2018, before announcing her retirement in 2020.
Her last victory over a top-20 player occurred in 2018 against Kvitová.
Wozniacki, runner-up at the US Open in 2009 and 2014, will now face Jennifer Brady of the United States in the next round.
