Mallika Sherawat was being viewed as a one-movie wonder with no major hits after her successful 2004 lead role in Murder. The movie was inspired by the Hollywood movie Unfaithful. Mallika or Reema Lamba as she was known during her debut days, then went on to do small roles in a few movies. She then took off to Los Angeles or LA. In March a film of hers directed by Rajat Kapoor was released. The film RK/RKAY had a theatrical release in the US and Canada. In a media interview, Mallika said how happy she was to break away from the typecast roles that were available for her in Bollywood and graduate to new meaningful roles.

she says are exciting and for this movie, a theatrical release in the US and Canada was something she was overjoyed with. She was delighted that Rajat Kapoor had approached her for a role very different from what she had been playing and was offered so far. Her role as Neha an actress who goes on to play Gulabo another character in the film is something she really enjoyed.
She mentions how her role in Murder typecast her as an immoral woman, and all the roles that followed and were offered were along similar lines. She mentions how this role is therefore somethings he had been waiting for. Mallika has been busy traveling, doing webs shows, and waiting for that one big role which she would enjoy doing and her wait is finally over she says. She has been associated with the industry for 17 years and aspires to play meaningful roles. This movie RK/RKAY has helped her reinvent herself and show a different side of her acting talent to the audiences she feels.
