The Grizzlies inform Dillon Brooks that he will not be retained. According to a report by Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Memphis Grizzlies have told pending free agent Dillon Brooks that they have no intention of bringing him back to the team under any circumstances.

After a dismal finish to the season, the Grizzlies informed the Canadian during an exit meeting that they intended to part ways with him.

During the Grizzlies’ first-round series loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, Brooks called LeBron James “old” and “tired” after Game 2 and punched him in the groin area during Game 3. The NBA imposed a $25,000 punishment on Brooks because he decided not to talk to the media following any of the three losses throughout the series.

Brooks’ poor performance exacerbated the defeat of the six-game series, as he shot only 31.2 percent from the field.

After the Houston Rockets selected Brooks in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft (45th overall), the native of Mississauga, Ontario, was promptly dealt to the Memphis Grizzlies. Brooks came out of Oregon and was selected in the second draft.

In his first game in the NBA, Brooks scored 19 points, which marked an impressive start to his career.

In February 2020, the Canadian player inked a new contract with the Grizzlies worth $35 million over three years.

Over the past four seasons, Brooks’s scoring average has been in the double figures. This past year, his scoring average was 14.3 points.
