Hair Loss Prevention: 7 Tips to Help Save Your Hair

Hair Loss Prevention: 7 Tips to Help Save Your Hair: Here we will go over seven tips to help save your hair.

Losing about 100 strands of hair daily is normal, but you might develop bald spots or alopecia if you lose more. A few reasons your hair might weaken and fall out are hormones, poor diet, and stress.

If you are experiencing some hair loss or fear that you might soon, keep reading for tips that can help you save your hair.

    Table of Contents

    • 1) Eat The Right Amount Of Protein
    • 2) Take Your Vitamins
    • 3) Follow The Mediterranean Diet
    • 4) Style Your Hair Gently
    • 5) Live Stress-Free
    • 6) Use Natural Remedies
    • 7) Use The Right Hygiene Products

    1) Eat The Right Amount Of Protein

Protein contains amino acid chains that help build hair blocks, and when you have a prolonged protein deficiency, your hair may stop growing or fall out.

However, too much protein has also been known to weaken hair health. To ensure that you are consuming a healthy amount of protein, aim for 40-60 grams daily.

    2) Take Your Vitamins

Like protein, many other vitamins cause hair loss when dealing with a deficiency.

Vitamin D, iron, zinc, and selenium are a few vitamin deficiencies that cause hair loss.

The best way to get enough vitamins is by including them in your diet.

Here are some foods that are high in each of the vitamins mentioned.

    • Vitamin D- salmon, swiss cheese, orange juice, eggs
    • Iron- Spinach, broccoli, almonds, and beef
    • Zinc- Legumes, yogurt, mushrooms, and garlic
    • Selenium- Banana, kiwi, dates, and mango

You can also take a daily multivitamin or hair, skin, and nail supplement.

    3) Follow The Mediterranean Diet

Research shows that eating raw vegetables and fresh herbs can reduce the risk of developing alopecia, slow its onset, and even reverse hair loss.

When you eat a well-rounded, healthy diet, your body quickly catches up and begins to heal itself, and the Mediterranean diet is one of the healthiest you can take.

    4) Style Your Hair Gently

Your hair and scalp are more sensitive than you may think, so you may not realize the importance of being gentle while styling.

Tight ponytails and braids can cause stress to your roots, leading to premature shedding and a receding hairline. Using heating tools like a hair dryer or flat iron can weaken your roots and hair. Using high heat just one time can damage your hair and cause breakage.

Additionally, tight hairstyles and heat tools can cause scalp inflammation, affecting hair growth. However, frequent head massages can help reduce inflammation and improve hair growth.

    5) Live Stress-Free

Growing up, your parents may have told you that your behavior made your hair turn gray or fall out. Well, it might have been true because stress has proven to cause both.

Research shows that psychological conditions like anxiety and depression and physical conditions like IBS and insomnia can lead to hair loss because of the stress it places on our bodies.

Stress hormones impair stem cells necessary for hair growth. These hormones also cause our immune system to attack our hair follicles when present for a prolonged period.

Avoiding stress is easier said than done, but you can help alleviate it with activities like yoga and sauna.

    6) Use Natural Remedies

There are many products on the market that promise to stop and reverse hair loss. Unfortunately, not many of these products live up to their claims.

Instead of dousing your scalp in chemicals in hopes that your hair will grow back, you should use natural remedies that have proven successful.

Fresh coconut milk can be applied directly to your scalp daily to promote hair growth. Coconut milk contains potassium, iron, and fatty acids that strengthen the hair shaft.

Essential oils like olive oil, jojoba oil, and argan oil can be massaged into the scalp to promote blood flow to hair follicles.

Cannabis can help balance hormones and nutrient irregularities which both hinder hair health. You can read more about using cannabis for hair loss at marijuanadoctors.com.

    7) Use The Right Hygiene Products

Although we would like to assume that hair care companies have our best interest at heart, some knowingly use ingredients that are harmful to our hair and body.

For example, one of the most common shampoo ingredients is parabens. Parabens disrupt our hormones and reproductive system, which surprisingly play a significant role in our hair health. Because of this, many natural hair care companies make it a point to include paraben-free labels on the front of their bottle.

However, parabens are not the only chemical to avoid. The most harmful chemicals in hair care products are:

    • Sulfates
    • Synthetic colors and fragrances
    • Formaldehyde
    • Polyethylene glycol
    • Silicone
    • Sodium chloride
    • Triclosan

Hair bleach and dyes can also cause hair loss. If you color your hair, it is best to have it done at a salon so a stylist can take special precautions to keep your hair and scalp safe.
