Going by what our very own Piggy Chops does and the standards of excellence that she strives for, it is no wonder then that our “desi girl” has created a very unique “desi” menu in her restaurant Sona.

A look at Chef Hari Nayak’s post and you will be treated to an array of mouth watering dishes, which will look familiar but have a unique difference too. For instance all of us have heard of samosas, but all of us would agree that goat cheese samosas are unique. The samosas are also made with spinach and served with a special dip. From the pictures and posts of Chef Nayak they look similar to “pattis” and the seasoning used is sesame seeds.

Another unique item is Bucketwheat Bhel. All those familiar with this Maharashtrian delicacy can vouch for its popularity, but Bucketwheat sure adds a twist. Bucketwheat is a grain like seed and pseudo cereal. This is a healthy option replete with fiber and minerals. It is also gluten free. Chef Nayak mentions that it is made with raw mango, sev, fenugreek sprouts. Buckwheat that is mixed with a chilli honey citrusy dressing.

This snacky joint also serves the extremely popular ‘Golgappas.”  The uniqueness here is “golgappa” shots with tequila and avocado that also feature on the menu.

Priyanka Chopra may have settled in a foreign land but her roots are strongly entrenched in India. This endeavour of hers is being warmly welcomed in New York with a wide NRI base and also those keen to try out Indian snacks. Many of the Bollywood stars have welcomed this as this gives them a place to go to when they are far away from India.
