Why do you need a heart check-up after recovery from COVID-19?

The relief of recovering from COVID-19 is immense, as is quite understandable, however, is your recovery a license to let go of other health concerns? Certainly not. One has to play safe and monitor their health for a long time to come.

Promagzine attempts to create an awareness below on why COVID patients post-recovery need to pay special attention to the health of their hearts. Our advice is based on internet research and should not be constituted as medical advice. At best this serves as an eye-opener by giving you some relevant information.

Why do you need a heart check-up after recovery from COVID-19?

The COVID -19 infection sets an inflammation inside our bodies and weakens the heart muscle. Abnormalities in the rhythm of the heart, clot formations in blood vessels may occur as revealed by a few doctors.

Abnormalities related to the heart that were reported post-COVID were cardiac enlargement, weakness of the heart muscles, low heart ejection fraction that is termed “dilated cardiomyopathy.”

The recovery rate is a good sign; however, one must watch out for long-term heart issues that may arise post this illness and recovery from it. An Oxford Journal study has listed that 50 percent of the people who had been hospitalized due to severe COVID have shown some heart damage after recovery, either close to their recovery or after a few months. Because there is a risk of heart diseases, it is very important that people get themselves checked up after recovery. For people who have pre-existing heart diseases/conditions, the risk is even higher and they should be extremely careful. When the heart muscle becomes weak it cannot pump blood in the way it is meant to and can’t perform its’ function effectively.

If people are aware of this risk they can take medical advice in time and look after the health of their heart post their recovery from COVID-19.
