With movie viewing assuming a totally different dimension during the pandemic, the shutting down of theatres, and the rise of digital media, the audience has adjusted to the new normal. We have seen different genres of films making it to the OTT platforms. Sardar Ka Grandson can safely be bracketed in the family entertainment category. It has been officially released on Netflix. The lead actors of the movie Rakulpreet, Arjun, and Nina Gupta have been posting updates on the movie on their social media platforms, thus raising the curiosity quotient.
This is the story of a devoted grandson played BY Arjun Kapoor who is trying to fulfil the last wishes of his sick and dying grandma which is played by the versatile Nina Gupta. Amreek aka Arjun Kapoor is based in the USA, in Los Angeles with his girlfriend Rakulpreet Singh. They own a movers and packers company jointly called “Gently Gently.” Amreek is a carefree guy and owning up to his mistakes is not his virtue. As a result of this attitude, his relationships at work too suffer. Radha played by Rakulpreet finds this very irksome and breaks up with him. This leaves Amreek in great despair. Kanwaljeet Singh or Gurki who is Amreek’s father asks him to come over to Amritsar the city to which he belongs.
Amreek’s grandmother Sardar, played by Nina Gupta, aged 90 is sick. Sardar’s last wish is to visit Lahore and revisit her house which she had lovingly built with her husband in 1946, the husband’s role Gursher is played by John Abraham in this movie. During the partition, however, John dies fighting the rioters. Gurki advises her against this arduous travel in her frail health and condition. Amreek however understands how much she wants to go and takes it upon himself to fulfill this wish of hers. What happens next and whether he is successful remains to be seen. The artists deliver fine performances.
