As the first Filipina-American to win Miss USA, Miss Texas makes history. Bonney Gabriel, formerly known as Miss Texas, made history last week by becoming the first Filipina American to win the title of Miss USA.

Gabriel, a fashion designer from San Antonio, Texas, who is 28 years old, will go on to represent the United States of America at the Miss Universe pageant the following year. Gabriel stated that the reason she designed the garment was to honor her background as well as her parent’s.

In a post on his Instagram account, Gabriel said that his mother is from Beaumont, Texas and that his father is from the Philippines. They had their wedding in Manila, which is located in the Philippines.

My sleeves have a classic Maria Clara Filipina collar form, which I knotted after hand-painting them with a floral design that was identical to the one on my mother’s wedding dress. I owe my parents an enormous debt of gratitude for the chances they gave me, and I wanted to find a way to show them how much I love them through this. The month of October is designated as Filipino American History Month, which corresponds with her victory.

Gabriel stated on the program Houston Life, which is broadcast on the NBC affiliate in Houston, KPRC, that when she has crowned Miss Texas in July, she felt proud to be a positive representative. The program airs in Houston.

“Oh my God, it’s an honor,” Gabriel said. I am getting messages from Filipina girls and ladies telling me they are so delighted, they are so happy. I am getting these messages on Instagram and just generally on social media.

She shared her thoughts by stating, “They are sobbing tears of pleasure because they are inspired to go pursue pageantry or something.” “It’s almost as if I’m preparing the ground for them to pursue whatever it is that they desire, no matter what it is. Therefore, it is a privilege.

Gabriel received a bachelor’s degree in fashion design from the University of North Texas, where he also earned his undergraduate degree. Her victory is significant because it follows in the footsteps of Macel Wilson of Honolulu, Hawaii, who in 1962 became the first Asian American to earn the title of Miss USA.
