The power of social media is unleashed yet again as celebrities send out to stay safe and stay indoors messages to their fans and followers. With the COVID-related restrictions already in place, venturing out was not advised. Now there is a new risk of the cyclone Tauktae that is battering Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujrat. With a wind speed of 160Km per hour, Mumbai is already drenched in heavy rain making life increasingly difficult for its citizens. Prominent stars like Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Malaika Arora, Kartik Aaryan, and many others had advised and requested citizens to stay at home.

They were also joined in this plea by the younger influencer generation of Navya Naveli Nanda, Shanaya Kapoor, and others. Renowned author Shobha De too posted a message saying how Mumbaikars were shuddering. The government authorities have already issued advisories and warnings informing the public about the perils of stepping out amidst the cyclone. Scenes of uprooted trees and other havoc wreaked by the storm were posted by the stars on their social media, in a bid to help people understand the severity of the cyclone and its effects.

Actors Diana Penty and Shruti Seth too advised people to stay indoors. Cyclone Tauktae has intensified to the status of a very severe cyclone and it is said to cross Porbandar on the 18th of May. This may occur in the wee hours of the morning of the 18th. The wind speed has intensified to 118 – 166 Km per hour. The meteorological department has warned of very heavy rain on Monday over Konkan, Goa. Saurashtra has already started experiencing heavy rain on Sunday, and Diu and Kutch will have their share on Monday and Tuesday. Southern Rajasthan will also be impacted.
