The streets of New York and other cities in the USA broke out in celebration as news of Joe Biden winning the Presidential election reached people. Biden at 77 years will be the oldest US President of the USA. As a member of the Democratic Party, Biden has previously served as the 47th vice president from 2009 to 2017. He has also served as the Senator of the United States for Delaware from 1973 to 2009. After his victory, Joe Biden tweeted that he was honored that he had been chosen to lead the country and said that he promised that he would be a President for all Americans whether one voted for him or not. “I will keep the faith you have placed in me “he said.
In a first of its kind historic win, his running mate Kamala Harris becomes the First Woman US Vice President. After her win, she tweeted “We did it, @Joe Biden”. Kamala Harris is of Indian origin and a bright star on the US political firmament. Before becoming a US Senator Kamala served as San Francisco’s district attorney and the attorney general of California. Harris mentioned that they had a lot of work ahead of them.
Donald Trump has been a sour loser so far, refusing to concede defeat. He said, “The Election is far from over.”
What does Joe Biden’s victory mean for India? Is a question which all Indians must be eager to know. Biden is no stranger to India; he has worked with Barack Obama as Vice President for two terms. Even before he became the Vice President of the US, in the year 2006, he had announced his vision of US India relations by saying that his dream was that in 2020 “ the two closest nations in the world will be India and the United States.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated both Kamala Harris and Joe Biden on his Twitter handle and said that he is confident that with the teaming up of Biden and Harris the Indo Us Ties would get stronger and reach greater heights.
