The World Environment Day is observed on Saturday 5th June has a special significance this year. The world has been reeling under the effects of the disastrous pandemic, making us aware of how important it is to live in harmony with the environment and create peace and happiness for mankind. The theme this year is “Ecosystem Restoration.” The World Health Organization or WHO has teamed up with the United Nations for Economic Restoration 2021- 2030.
This day seeks to instill the importance of nature and the environment. On this day governments world over and responsible citizens take up a particular issue in environment and take a pledge to spread awareness about it to the masses.
Environmental activists devise campaigns and run awareness drives on the same. The focus is largely on the conservation of the environment. The drive is towards saying that nature should not be exploited for personal greed or gain and natural sources must not be depleted.
June 3rd is celebrated by The United Nations as World Bicycle Day. The bicycle is simple, has a long life is affordable, and very environmentally friendly. The environment can be kept clean and pollution-free if people adopted cycling as a practice.
June 8th is celebrated as World Oceans Day with a view towards conserving oceans.
June 17th is observed by the UN as World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. This day marks the work done by countries in sustainable land management.
June 22nd is celebrated as World Rainforest Day with a view to raising awareness to protect rainforests.
The first Saturday of June marks the day when the American Hiking Society asks everybody to commit to taking at least one action that would preserve the quality of the green space around us.
