Bollywood is known to be both kind and cruel to all those associated with it, right from producers, directors, actors, actresses, technicians, etc. People with no industry links like Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, etc have zoomed to the top while there has been news of once successful people like Praveen Babi, Achala Sachdeva, Vimi, A.K Hangal, Bharat Bhushan, and many others who became broke and died in poverty. One recent news that is doing the rounds is of actress Shagufta Ali who is struck by poverty with no roles and no work.
It is said that she has had to sell her jewelry too and is now left with nothing to sell off too. Her heart-breaking story has been doing the industry rounds and her colleagues are quite moved by this. In the latest episode of Dance Deewane the dance reality show, which has Madhuri Dixit as one of the judges, Shagufta will be seen talking about her financial state, her lack of work, and dire poverty. She talks about how her illness and diabetes affected her legs and her eyesight. The show will see Madhuri Dixit, offering her a cheque of Rs 5 lacs as financial assistance on behalf of the reality show Dance Deewane.
Shagufta mentions on the show that she has been in the industry for the past 36 years, out of which 32 have been very good and fruitful despite her struggles, she worked hard and got a lot of work. She made enough to support her family too. Talking about her last four years she says she had given several auditions but nothing materialized and she got no work. Her financial condition deteriorated tremendously. On the show, she is seen expressing her deepest gratitude for the amount that was given to her.
