The much-awaited Season 2 of The Family Man starring Manoj Bajpayee and Samantha Akkineni, has run into troubled waters. A complaint has been written by Rajya Sabha MP Vaiko, to the Union Minister for I&B, Prakash Javadekar. He had demanded a ban on the second season of the show. This is one of the most popular trailers garnering a view of nearly 40 million and growing by the day. The reason for the ban is attributed to the fact that the second season of this web series shows Tamilians in a bad light and equates them with terrorists.
The Rajya Sabha MP mentions that the trailer shows the Tamilians having connections with the ISI agents of the Pakistanis. To add to this, he mentioned that the sacrifices made by the Tamil Eelam are also wrongly depicted. Raji, the character played by Samantha shows her as a terrorist and this the MP feels has hurt the sentiments of the Tamilians especially because she is shown as being connected with the ISI. A stop on the release has been demanded by the Minister.

The letter has mentioned that if the show was not stopped it would have a very serious impact, as the people of Tamil Nadu will view it very seriously. Chances of grave consequences ensuing were highly likely. After the trailer started trending, a large section of the netizens started protesting against the portrayal of Samantha’s character as fanning anti-Tamil sentiments. It is to be noted that it was for this very portrayal that actor Kangana Ranaut had recently praised Samantha on her Instagram account saying she had a large part of her heart.
After a lot of delays largely owing to the pandemic, the second season of The Family Man is all set for a June 4th, 2021 release. This will be released on Amazon Prime Video. The first season had a fantastic response from the audience and the second season was keenly anticipated with great excitement. The other stars in this series are Priyamani, Sharib Hashmi, Sharad Kelkar, and others. The creator of this series is Raj & DK.
