Trying to get her cellphone, a teen falls to her death. Local reports state that a 15-year-old Turkish girl died earlier this month after dropping her cellphone and attempting to pick it up.
Melike Gün Kanavuzlar attempted to retrieve the gadget on October 12 while she was on the fourth story of a building in Ortaca, a city in southwest Turkey located around 115 kilometres from the picturesque resort town of Bodrum.
According to Cumhiryet, she lost her balance and fell four stories to the sidewalk below. According to the local newspaper, the young girl was taking a selfie when she slipped.
The moment her body hit the ground with a thud was captured on disturbing security camera, nearly missing a pedestrian who had just bowed down to pick up something from the sidewalk.
The 11-second video shows the upset pedestrian covering her ears and running away in the other direction as a small dog pursues her. Kanavuzlar was taken to a nearby hospital where she spent 18 days fighting for her life in the intensive care unit before passing away from her wounds.
